The Song I Swore Never To Sing

Wowie, this has taken a long time to get these photos up! I took these almost last month, well May 18th. I already posted the Sydney shots from the same night, they can still be seen in my archives.

Moral of the story - I'm slow sometimes, but I have been keeping busy with the photography, between shoots and eBaying.

I finally have a camera on its way to me. It was shipped today. It's a Canon 1D, and I'm very excited to be able to shoot with this camera. I can take more photos like these ones soon!

Back to the .moneen. show - it was a solid set. What more can I say? They played all the best songs, a bunch of new ones, got more into a live show than I've seen a band do in a while, rocked the fuck out, and let me shoot them while doing it. The live energy of the band pumped the audience all the way up, and an encore was played. Surrounded by a mass of photographers, including Kevin and Ryan and myself, they played a well documented evening. Solid set, great guys, good times. Thanks.

Now let's be honest - I haven't seen .moneen. in a few years, not since a show they played with boysnightout at the Trash in Guelph, I didn't enjoy them at that point in time, but in the last couple of years I've been blown away by their music, and was thrilled when The Red Tree came out. I've listened to it over and over again since, I was expecting good, and so I was pleasantly confirmed with a sound I love, infact I'm even going to throw it in right now, and get my head bobbing. I must set the mood for this post. Buy it. Listen to it. Love it. And most importantly make sure you watch out for them rocking on a stage near you. Dece.

Well now after my little .moneen. rant, you can all go back to your interwebing for the time being until tomorrow!

Cheers, leave a comment. And wish me luck on the speedy and safe arrival of my new camera

Love, David

Hidden Treasures

Jenn and I found this great skirt at Value VIllage the other week [$9.99 or something like that - great deal!], We had to test it out in an on the spot photoshoot in my backyard this past Sunday. It didn't turn out too bad for a shoot with no planning and a quick set-up. These were taken with natural light coming through the trees overhead.

I've recieved some mixed feedback on this shot, let me know what you think - there are lots of improvements I can make for next time. Give me your ideas my friends.

Just today I reworked my flickr site and put up a lot of photos, some you've seen on my blog before, some of which you have not. Start here if you want to see a selection of my favorite photos. Add me to your friends list in flickr if you have it. We could all use a few more friends, right?

Fear For Flight

A long time ago, I was less lazy than I was today. As you all know I biked to Hamilton, good times were had, and I took lots of pictures. Well, I also took this one, it was my favorite from the entire adventure and I was saving it for a special day. Everyone take a look, it needs to be larger to enjoy it in all its glory. Or tell me you hate it.

Love, David

ps. I might buy a Canon 1D - it's exciting for me at least.

pps. I've been getting some spam lately, so I've turned on the "word verification" when posting comments. It'll only take a couple of seconds extra, so ... keep telling me what I'm doing right, and what you want changed!

Photoshoot - Jennifer

"I'm a model you know what I mean as I do my little turn on the catwalk, on the catwalk...."

Jenn and I went out to test a good outdoor spot for photos. This was my favorite from the day. I was using a 20D for the shoot since I didn't have my camera with me, so it was quite a test as the settings weren't the same as my customs settings I have been used to for the past year or so shooting with my 10D camera.

Here's another shot which I'm sure everyone will love! This is what she normally loooks like. :)

ps. you can always click the picture to make it larger, and better for your viewing pleasure.

Booth Of Conversation

Some pay phones outside of the Much Music building in Toronto, On.

I took this photo the same day that I took this one. I thought that posting this today was appropriate as I just entered the man and his dog in a photo contest for photo friday this week. Head on over to photofriday and take a look, maybe even remember to vote for me come next weekend! I'll remind everyone on here to vote. By the way, I'm number 191. Have a great weekend, and as always, let me know how I'm doing.

ps. donate funds to me to buy a camera. I accept paypal donations, cash and beer.

Stay Out

Some decent times in Hamilton lastweek. This is around the base of the liftbridge beside the Skyway Bridge going across the hamilton Harbour from Burlington to Hamilton. I was very scared of being pooped on while composing and taking this photograph. There were brids flying everywhere, nesting in the bridge I suppose, but when the horn alarmed to initiate the bridges lift sequence all of the birds went crazy. I got out of there quick!

Lift Me Up

In Colour:

B+W:

I took this picture on my three and a half hour bikeride to and around Hamilton last week. I saw some interesting characters on the pier and took loads of pictures before getting rid of the camera I call my baby. Tell me which of these two final shots you prefer, I'm getting too into black and white so I'm biased to my own work, let me know.

Week Long

I bought this lens on impulse, it's the most expensive thing I could imagine buying impulsively. Unfortunately I found it to not be the most sharp lens I have, hence not being able to justify the expense. I was more happy with the picture of it than the pictures I was getting of it. So, this was it. Now I need to find money to buy a new camera.
I went out shooting with Jennifer today, hopefully there will be some pictures of her coming up in the next few days. I know how much you people like pictures of, well, people!

Pre-Funk

Last Thursday I made the trip up to Waterloo in a huge rainstorm, battling the wind and rain I made it there in normal time to visit my pals before the show. I met up with Kevin and we headed over to the show on empty stomachs. The first band rocked, then there was the second band who played a long set - the kids seemed to like them though, but we sat back and downed a few brews compliments of Scotty from Sydney.

Sydney rocked the house, their fan base was decent sized considering it was their first time playing in Waterloo. Then there was Moneen, but we'll save that story for another day!

Back In Action

I'm back!

But on a more serious note: Kevin and I went out on an adventure last weekend to the park in Erindale. I took this picture. Now I have no cast, and no camera, and no lens, and I need a camera. Someone buy me a camera. Thanks.
Love David

Ryan Walker

"For the longest time I have had an interest in photography. It was not until a few years ago that I really got into photography. I enjoy photographing anything and everything. I particularly enjoy people. Some other interests include; skateboarding, snowboarding and collecting records. I am currently in my third year of the Honours Arts and Business Program at the University of Waterloo. I am also in the co-op program so I have been back in school for the past two summers. I know Dave through mutual friends in Waterloo. Come back Dave. We miss you buddy!"

Kevin Hiscott

"Heya, I'm Kevin Hiscott! I've had a camera, be it Ninja Turtles brand or otherwise, for as long as I can remember. I started taking photography a little more seriously when I started using my mother's Canon AE-1. Since then I've gradutated to Auto Focus and Digital. This helps me keep my photoblog, Portway Ave : No Exit up to date. I'm a software developer who will be continuing work with ATI in the fall. Currently I'm in University at Waterloo for Computational Science. I like snowboarding, Bob Dylan, my Macs, night and landscape photography, and my Audi."

<---- Kevin and I enjoy going photographing together, and sometimes he even has pictures of me doing my thing here and here on his blog. He's a swell guy, but too bad he's moved back to Waterloo for the term.

Shane Porter

"My name is Shane Porter and I have been shooting seriously for almost a year. I have always had an interest in photography, but I had never taken the time to seriously pursue it until I found my Dad's old Yashica film SLR. After putting a few rolls of film through it, I was hooked. Within about six months I upgraded to a Nikon D70 and havent looked back. I am still very much in the learning stage and I havent taken any formal photography courses (one of my biggest regrets is not taking the photography course that my high school offered), but perhaps when I finish my last year of my Business degree at Laurier it will be something to look into. I don't really have a set style of shots that I like to take, so if you ever need anything photographed give me a shout!"

Although I've never met Shane [that guy-->], he seems like a nice guy! You can view his work here. He blogs on a fairly constant basis, and always shares his experiments.

William Milwain

"Hi, I'm Dave's dad. I've picked up a camera again after about a 20 year dry spell and Dave's been very instrumental in giving me inspiration and encouragement to follow this path. The way digital photography has progressed recently helped as well. I love the instantaneous gratification of shooting and processing on the computer and the ability to control the artistic outcome more than I ever could with film. I'm still learning lots and loving it as I know Dave is too. Enjoy and have fun."

FJ Sarmiento

FJ was born in the Philippines in 1982, he now resides between his hometown of Pickering and his school in Waterloo, On. I met FJ at the Photo Club at UW, we’ve since worked together on one photography assignment and he’s taught me a great deal about photography, equipment, and eBay. He’s been taking pictures for the past 3 years, and does a phenomenal job. His favorite things in life range from his soulmate, Carmen, to singing and dancing, photography and basketball. He also likes tennis, but I told him he could only have 5 interests.

FJ is a great photographer, and you can find his work online at www.fj5.cjb.net. He provides an extensive portfolio, along with quotes for his services.

Watch The Tides

"Upon a cliff, We watch the tides,
Catching a glimpse of the dawns sunrise,
Clutching your hands, they are soft and wet,
With a million pieces of sand embedded
Into your nails.
Your words come in waves,
That fill up my lungs.
I'm caught in your loop,
That thrusts me into the sea.
As love sails away, with fate aborad,
And deep breaths of you are all but drowned,
A circle of hope comes into my arms." - anonymous

Edge On A Wire

"High above the racing Niagara River, you'll look eye to eye with birds soaring effortlessly on thermal updrafts rising from the gorge. Suspended in space you share their point of view. Far below the torrent of water abruptly changes direction, creating one of the world’s most mesmerizing natural phenomenon – The Niagara Whirlpool. Sometimes frightening and always unforgettable."

Here's to that! And, I just made $6.10 off empties, and now I'm eating lime and black pepper chips - the best in the world.

Time For A Dip

Well, things keep getting better and better in the life of this guy. Today I wake up with a sore throat and end up in the apple store dropping my workhorse computer off for repair. Something fried in my baby, maybe it has to do with leaving it turned on for the last 5 months straight? Way to be an environmentalist! So couple my oncoming cold, with my broken knuckle, and a dying computer, and you have how I feel right now. On the upside my computer might be covered under warranty. On the dowside I won't have it back till mid next week. That's my story - now here's a random picture for you.

Spring, My Dear

We love the warm weather. I went to lay in the sun today, but it was overcast and chilly. Well needless to say I didn't give in to the weather, and I did as planned, but it was still chilly on my bare body. Enjoy my updates!
